Why this matters
Your photo contains your home address
Every photo taken on a modern smartphone embeds your GPS coordinates β latitude and longitude accurate to a few metres. Anyone receiving the original file can open it in any EXIF viewer and see exactly where you were.
What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata baked into photos by cameras and phones. It can include GPS location, timestamp, camera make/model, lens info, serial numbers, and even the device owner's name.
When to strip before sharing
Before posting on social media, sending via email, listing items for sale, sharing in public forums, or submitting photos professionally. Most platforms strip EXIF β but not all, and not always instantly.
Completely private, zero upload
Everything runs in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photo is never sent anywhere. Works offline once the page is loaded. No account, no tracking.
