How it works
Why WebP?
WebP typically achieves 25–35% smaller file sizes than JPEG at equivalent visual quality. It's supported in all modern browsers, iOS 14+, and Android.
Quality setting
Controls WebP lossy compression. 80–85 is a sweet spot for photos: barely distinguishable from the original, yet significantly smaller. Set to 100 for max fidelity.
Lossless mode
WebP lossless is pixel-perfect but usually results in larger files than lossy at high quality. Useful when you need byte-identical reconstruction.
Resize
Caps the longest dimension proportionally. A 4000 × 3000 px image with "1080" selected becomes 1440 × 1080 px. Original files are never modified.
EXIF metadata
Browser canvas conversion always strips EXIF (location, camera model, dates). This is the browser's behaviour, not a choice. Use a native app to preserve EXIF.
100% private
All processing happens inside your browser using the Canvas API. Files never leave your device — no server, no account, works offline once loaded.
