Why square matters
Instagram & profile photos
Instagram crops profile photos to a circle from a square frame. Non-square images get awkwardly cropped. Use 1080×1080 for feed posts and 320×320 for profile pictures.
eCommerce product shots
Most marketplaces — Amazon, Etsy, Shopify — require or strongly prefer square product images. 800×800 or 1080×1080 are safe choices for most platforms.
