The Role of Dummy Text in UX Design
Lorem Ipsum is more than filler — it's a tool that lets stakeholders focus on structure, hierarchy, and typography without being distracted by the actual messaging. A good placeholder text generator produces genuinely varied output, supports multiple formats, and gets out of your way.
Why does varied text matter?
Repeating the same block exposes the pattern to anyone reviewing a mockup. Varied sentence lengths and paragraph structures give a realistic feel of real copy — making client presentations and design reviews far more convincing.
When to use HTML mode?
When you need to paste placeholder text directly into HTML files or a CMS. HTML mode wraps every paragraph in proper <p> tags, saving you the reformatting step.
When to use Markdown mode?
For README files, documentation drafts, or any Markdown-based platform like Notion, Ghost, or GitHub. Paragraphs are separated by double line breaks as the spec requires.
What are text flavors?
Different projects call for different register. Classic Latin for traditional design mockups, Business/Corporate for enterprise decks, Tech/Startup for SaaS interfaces, and Short & Punchy for ad copy and mobile UI testing.
Is it safe for production?
Never ship Lorem Ipsum to a live site. It signals to users — and search engines — that the page is incomplete. Always replace placeholder text before going live.
Why Latin?
Latin-based dummy text has a natural distribution of letter frequency that closely mimics real English, making it visually neutral. Readers can't assign meaning to it and focus on the layout instead.
