How this tool calculates results & its limitations
  • Offsets are live, not "standard." A city's UTC offset is computed for the current moment using its real timezone rules — so a city observing daylight saving time will move between offsets across the year (e.g. New York is UTC−5 in winter and UTC−4 in summer). This is intentional and accurate, but means a city won't always appear under the same offset.
  • Day / Dawn / Dusk / Night is calculated astronomically from each city's coordinates and the current date/time using a standard solar-position formula. "Dawn" and "Dusk" correspond to civil twilight (sun between 0° and 6° below the horizon). This does not account for local terrain, weather, cloud cover, or altitude.
  • The world map is a stylized illustration, not a precise geographic projection. The shaded "night" band is a simplified approximation centered on the point directly opposite the sun — it ignores the seasonal curvature of the real day/night line, so treat it as a rough visual guide only.
  • The city list is a curated selection of major cities and territories (~90 locations) covering every UTC offset that is actually in use, including unusual ones like UTC+5:45 (Nepal), UTC+8:45 (Eucla), UTC+12:45 (Chatham Islands) and the 30-minute DST shift in Lord Howe Island. It is not an exhaustive list of every city or timezone in the world.
  • "Time at this offset" is a pure arithmetic calculation (current UTC time + the selected offset) — it does not represent any specific city, just what the clock would read at that raw offset.
  • Copy / Share buttons use your browser's clipboard. If your browser blocks clipboard access (some privacy settings or older browsers), these may not work — you'll see an on-screen message if that happens.
  • Times refresh once per minute, not every second.
  • This tool relies on your browser's built-in timezone database (the Intl API). All modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge from ~2021 onward) support this; very old browsers may show incomplete data for some cities.
